Private Pilot Certificate
The first step to conquering the skies starts with earning your private pilot certificate. Earning a private pilot certificate gives you the ability to rent a helicopter and fly on your own. With a pilot’s certificate, you can fly for any reason except for compensation. Otherwise, the sky is the limit! A private pilot’s license is also a great first step on the way to obtaining a commercial pilot’s license.
Earning a private pilot certificate allows you the opportunity to:
- Take up a new hobby
- Enjoy the skies with friends and family
- Fly your own helicopter
- Participate in search and rescue operations
- Fly for charity events

We also teach you about weather concerns you may encounter in your future as a helicopter pilot.
Requirements for earning a private pilot certificate:
- You must be 17 years old
- A minimum of 40 flight hours with an average of 50-70 hours

Medical Certification
The FAA requires all helicopter pilots to be medically cleared for flight. Medical certification requires a physical exam from an FAA-approved Aviation Medical Examiner. A complete list of approved physicians is available on the FAA website. Doctors evaluate your complete medical history, taking into account psychological conditions, medical concerns, and any history of substance abuse that may disqualify you from obtaining a private pilot certificate. You will also undergo a hearing and vision examination. Once approved, you will be on your way to a bright future in the great blue skies!
